NOW is proud to be launching our new Advanced Textile Manufacturing Sector Initiative and are now offering Introduction to Industrial Sewing classes, taught by Wendy Sperberg of OregonAero, Inc. Classes will meet at OregonAero, Inc., located at the airport just north of Scappoose Oregon. Sessions will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30-5:30, beginning on Monday, May 6th, 2019. The machines will be available for extra practice 30 minutes prior to and following each class session. There is no cost for this course, and all materials will be provided.
These classes will provide a hands-on sewing experience, teaching the basics that apply to production sewing positions in a wide variety of manufacturing facilities. It is designed for beginners as well as those with some home sewing experience. Students will learn basic straight stitch sewing machine operation on different machines typically used in production. Projects will put skills into practical applications, including simple pattern design, various sewing techniques, and will include common zipper installations, handles, and Velcro. Students will also learn how to maintain their machines and troubleshoot problems. A strong emphasis will be placed on developing safe sewing habits from the beginning.
